Review: "The le Haut de la Butte bottling of Bourgueil from Jacky Blot is made from vines in excess of thirty-five years of age, grown on clay and silex over limestone. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in a combination of cement tanks and used casks. The 2019 version is excellent, wafting from the glass in a complex blend of sweet dark berries, cassis, cigar wrapper, bitter chocolate, a touch of menthol and a superb base of dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and ripely tannic, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil undertow, very good focus and balance and a long, youthful and promising finish. This needs some bottle age to soften up its backend tannins, but it will be a fine example once it is ready to drink."

"A striking gamy, smoky note marks the currant and tart raspberry notes in this red, with details of peppercorn, anise, garrigue and olive providing depth through the moderately tannic finish. Drink now through 2029. 600 cases made, 150 cases imported.
