Review: "The 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a darker and more earthy vintage for Vaio Armaron yet offers depths of crushed cherries, plum sauce, autumnal spice and a refreshing hint of minty herbs. It’s velvety and weighty in texture, supported by brisk acids and cool-toned red and black fruits contrasting with hints of sour citrus. It’s amazing how savory the 2003 shows today; however, it’s also full of energy and focused, as inner florals and hints of dried blueberries linger long. While this is a late release and included in the vintage collection, it has yet to be recorked. Also of note is that, due to the heat and dry conditions of the vintage, the 2003 did not benefit from the addition of botrytized fruit. Instead, it makes up for that glycerol-like sweetness with slightly more residual sugar than most vintages, at around 7 grams per liter."
