91 JG. "La Lagune is another one of those châteaux of modest reputation that has consistently produced reliably long-lived and tasty wines. The 1970 is truly lovely, and is one of the sleepers of this outstanding vintage. The bouquet is classic Margaux (which this wine has always stuck me as being, despite its official appellation of Haut Medoc), as it offers up a refined and complex blend of black cherries, blackberries, violets, a bit of truffle, tobacco and Margaux soil tones. On the palate the wine is medium-full, fleshy and impeccably focused, with beautiful acids, and excellent core of fruit, and a long, complex and quite outstanding finish. The ’70 La Lagune is a beautiful wine with years of life ahead of it." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #4, Aug 2006 |
