95 JG. "As great as the last two premier crus chez Gouges were showing, the 2009 Vaucrains was even a step up. The absolutely superb nose jumps from the glass in a blaze of cherries, pomegranate, nutskins, a gloriously complex base of soil, vinesmoke and coffee. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, very pure and also quite properly reserved, with a great sappy core of fruit, a very refined, but substantial structure and brilliant length and grip on the supremely elegant (for young Vaucrains) finish. A brilliant wine." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #30, Dec 2010 |
