"Dark, bright red. Medicinal black cherry on the reticent nose. Concentrated and very primary, conveying a strong impression of energy to the flavors of black cherry, raspberry, licorice and menthol. Very pulpy wine, like chewing on grapes. A powerful rather than elegant style of Volnay (this fruit was picked at a high 13% potential alcohol), with the very long finish showing a firm tannic spine that Bitouzet says is typical of this wine. Very impressive for the year and built for a slow evolution in bottle." |
