Lot #278. Latour 1957

Description: Consists of 4 Bottles, 0.75L
Score: 91-93 NM.
"This extraordinary wine was tasted alongside VCC 1971 - unbelievably this was the more youthful in appearance! The nose was open-knit, expressive with soft leathery red fruits. The palate is full of smooth tannins with notes of coffee and molasses. Incredibly well-balanced and youthful. Very soft textured and elegant on the finish. - this exemplifies everything about great mature Bordeaux . . . . Would probably be overlooked by many. Absolutely superb." Neal Martin, Wine Journal, Dec 1999
Provenance: The Tower Cellar
Notes: 4 very top shoulder, light adhesive residue on capsules, very lightly scuffed labels. "The owner of this wine acquired it directly from the Latour Estate cellars. It was stored in a cold humid, natural cellar, 10m under a small hill in the Loire Valley. The levels were exceptional. The wines were extremely fresh, tasting much the same as the wines from the Estate's cellar from the same vintages. For that reason, the Château made an exception, putting new labels and capsules on this bottle. Reference: Frédéric Engerer, President, Château Latour"
