Lot #558. Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon 1970

Description: Consists of 2 Bottles, 0.75L
Score: 95 JG.
"Paired up with the brilliant 1970 Ch√Ęteau Montrose, one would intuitively think that this lovely old cabernet would be a bit out of its league. However, this was emphatically not the case, as it not only matched, but may even have nosed out the Montrose served alongside. The beautiful, very deep and complex nose is a blend of top flight Graves cut in the La Mission style and a bit of classic California cabernet, as it offers up notes of black cherries, black truffles, singed tobacco leaf, a touch of petroleum jelly and eucalyptus, cigar ash and earth. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and brilliantly balanced, with striking transparency for a big old cab, and great depth and focus on the very, very long, soil-driven and complex finish. Simply a terrific bottle of wine, with years and years of life ahead of it." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2008, Issue #13
Provenance: The Voilier Cellar
Notes: 1 Upper mid shoulder, 1 mid shoulder, wine stained capsules, 1 nicked, 1 heavily damp stained, 1 damp stained, faded, scuffed labels, signs of slight past seepage.
Lot Location: Orange County
