91 RP. "The outstanding 2012 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast was made from the Old Wente clone, with malolactic fermentation completely blocked, and only 25% new French oak used. Made in a Chablis-like style, it possesses lots of citrus and green apple notes, medium to full body, and wonderful freshness, delineation, acidity and intensity. Those who complain that California Chardonnays are too buttery or oaky will love what Auteur has accomplished with this cuvée. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Auteur is a small, high-quality winery founded in 2003 by Kenneth Juhasz. The 2012 offerings appear to be the finest wines Auteur has yet made. Moreover, their new packaging is a major upgrade in aesthetics." Wine Advocate #216, Dec 2014 |
